Olympic women’s boxing hopefuls from three different Australian States are currently undergoing training camp in Colorado Springs, CO.

Kristy Harris of Victoria, Western Australian Caitlin Parker and Shelley Watts from New South Wales are training alongside the USA Boxing Team.

Two-week training camp is held from 20 February to 1 March at the USA Olympic Training Centre in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

“The opportunity to train with the USA team will give our boxers great preparation leading into the Asia/Oceania Olympic Qualifying Tournament,” said National Head Coach Kevin Smith.

“The Americans won two medals at the 2012 Games and it will be a valuable experience to train alongside and spar with Olympic standard athletes, while also learning from their high performance environment and coaches.”

“Training and sparring with Olympic medalists on a daily basis will also inspire our women to achieve their full potential”.

Boxing Australia reports that female boxers will have their first opportunity to qualify for the Rio Olympics at the Asia/Oceania Olympic Qualifying Tournament in China 23 March – 3 April, where a top-2 finish would earn a Rio berth.
