Rob Powdrill takes on Meng Fanlong at the Ruenroeng v Casimero rematch on Wednesday 25th May in Beijing, China. Mike Tyson attends the event.
Australian boxer Robert Powdrill (6-2, 1) is fighting Chinese 2012 Olympian Fanlong Meng (6-0, 4) in the IBF flyweight world championship card Amnat Ruenroeng (17-0, 5) v John Riel Casimero (21-3, 13). The appearance of Mike Tyson reportedly happens due to an online survey (Weibo) where Chinese fans voted for a ‘boxer they’d like to see most at IBF world conference on May 23 to 28.
The Powdrill v Meng bout was officially revealed early May when Asian Boxing released that Thairath, AKA Thai TV channel 32, provides coverage of the event. It was also outlined that Powdrill ‘is a genuinely tough task for Meng’. Additionally, two weeks ago The West Australian quoted Australian boxer Danny Green saying ‘Rob Powdrill’s a ripper, you don’t have to wonder where he is’. However it seems no easier for Aussie ‘Powerdrill’, since Chinese Meng is an undefeated southpaw who holds a six-fight record with 67% KO ratio.
The event is held at Diamond Court in Beijing, China. The headliner will see a rematch between IBF flyweight champion Amnat Ruenroeng from Thailand and Filipino John Riel Casimero. Supersport reports that their original encounter last June in Bangkok, Thailand was a ‘foul-filled wrestling match’. Philboxing adds that the rematch was ordered by the IBF that saw a controversial handling of their first bout by referee Larry Doggett, who ‘failed to call several infractions by Ruenroeng including two take-downs in a foul-infested bout’.
BoxingScene shares that Mike Tyson, a former undisputed heavyweight world champion, arrived in China to help promote a championship event which is part of the ongoing convention connected to the International Boxing Federation (IBF). Tyson presented at the weigh-ins ceremony that was held at Chinese landmark the Great Wall. He is expect to appear at the boxing gala at Diamond Court on Wednesday 25th May.
