Yolanda Schmidt defeats Pia Slagado at Siam 2 Sydney fight night on Saturday, September 17, 2016 in Ryde, NSW.

Long time rivals Yolanda Schmidt of Sydney and Canberra’s Pia Salgado squared off in the women’s super flyweight muaythai bout. It was their third encounter since 2013. Their second clash was two years later on the Gold Coast. It was the finals of Australian selection for IFMA 2016 Jonkoping. Schmidt came out victorious in both toe-to-toe challenges. However their fight left judges no doubts. A unanimous decision has been announced, confirming Schmidt as the first string of female muaythai in Australia.

“Feeling really good today,” says Schmidt. “It was an epic fight. Fight of the night for sure!”

“For most of the fight we had the crowd roaring to their feet.”

Indeed, highly regarded Salgado brought her A-game to the table.

“It was everything I expected, definitely as hard as the previous fights,”

“I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Last month Schmidt defeated Thai competitor Plyfah at Queen’s birthday televised show in Bangkok. In July she scored a dominant win over Alica Pestana in Perth, additionally earning the Fighter of the Night award.

‘The Springbok’ Yolanda Schmidt has already the following contest ahead. She is fighting at Rebellion event this November in Melbourne. We will release more information as soon as it becomes available.
