Mark Hunt verbally agrees to fight Alistair Overeem at UFC 209.
UFC 209 is held on March 4, 2017 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV, USA. Mark Hunt vs Alistair Overeem is not yet confirmed. It is indeed said to be verbally agreed, however there is a clause Hunt requires to be in place. He targets a resolution against those who fail the doping test which has been an on going issue.
“My clause will protect me in this instance and take the financial gain of the opponent of caught cheating,” he said speaking to MarkHunt.TV
“That deterrent will protect me and other fighters. I’m pushing for this clause, I want to fight and I am ready. If the fight doesn’t go ahead it’s not my doing.”
“I will not fight without this clause. I’ve already fought 3 dopers in a row and I’m not going to fight again without security. All I want is a fair go and an even playing field.”
Hunt’s latest fight was at UFC 200 against Brock Lesnar. The second earned a decision victory but failed the drugs test. The outcome saw Hunt furious at UFC as well as the suspension of Lesnar by Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) for one year and $250K fine. The result was also turned into a No Contest.
“Super Samoan” aims a revenge over Overeem for the 2008 first round submission defeat in Osaka, Japan.
“Overeem was one of my losses over a 7 fight losing streak when I was fighting battles outside the ring as well as inside.”
“I couldn’t have beaten a wooden chair at that time in my life.”
“I’ve never lost a rematch and I’m not about to.”
Alistair Overeem last fought in September. He took on the current champion Stipe Miocic, who earned the Round 1 KO victory. Overeem was previously revealed to have failed the pre-fight drug test in 2012.
