The president of the WKN, Stephane Cabrera sends a video message at the press conference for Kickboxing World Cup 2017.
World Cup is a twelve-nation fiesta organized on March 10 in Tehran. The happening is the following step in the development of the international kickboxing in Iran. Besides, the government reportedly supports an unprecedented sports event in the country. The local promoter Reza Hejazi has been collaborating with the WKN since last year.
The press conference was held Monday. The attendees and the media were presented the details on the event, championship belt as well as the video message from the World Kickboxing Network president Stephane Cabrera. The WKN head greeted all people in Iran and talked the event.
“I am very proud to have this event in Tehran and to promote it with Mr Hejazi,” he said.
“It will be one of the best events in the world.”
“I am very happy to have it in Iran where there are a lot of good strong fighters and very nice people.”
The WKN World Cup 2017 is a 70 kg kickboxing 8-man tournament
The opening and semi-final bouts will go ahead at 3 x 2 minute rounds. The championship finale is of the 5 x 2 formula. The list of the participants is presented below.

In addition four international title bouts feature on the program. Sina Karimian is taking on Neil Aquino of Germany in the super cruiserweight match. Vahid Mahdavi is going up against Denis Lamanec of Slovakia in the super light heavyweight challenge. Also on the card local athletes are facing off the competitors of Thailand and Vietnam. The WKN is currently finalizing the matchmaking.
The supervisor of the event is Chris Christodoulou of Cyprus. Hall of fame referee out of the United States Steve Smoger officiates the bouts.
