Medalists at Muay Thai Australia National Championships 2017

Australian national championship in muaythai was held from Friday February 17 to Sunday February 19 on the Gold Coast, QLD.

Seniors, juniors as well as female muaythai fighters from all over the country have taken part in the happening. The event was a selection for Team Australia that participates in the IFMA World Championships later this year.

In the final day of the competition the “Male, Class-A” category looked as the following. Corey Nicholson of Queensland earned Gold in the 54 kg weight division. He defeated Mitchell Schultz of South Australia. Two fighters out of New South Wales squared off in the final of the 63.5 kg category where Andrew Tung defeated Adam Pozorek. Billy Coulter claimed Gold in the 67 kg class when he defeated his fellow-Queenslander Corey Hurren. Similarly Cameron Torrens defeated Chad Pinkney becoming a champion in the 71 kg class. Grant Sinitsky of Queensland defeated Ben Branch of New South Wales in the class of 75 kg. In the division of 81 kg Dion Beattie of New South Wales defeated Luke Meir of Queensland.

The official website of Muay Thai Australia reveals the table that also comprises the results of the juniors and female contests. Peter Boyd, national president of MTA, has posted on Facebook the words of appreciation to those who have taken part in the event. He also remarks that although the National Championships have been successfully held the work doesn’t stop.

“It’s time to organise the Senior Australian team in preparation for Belarus in May and the Junior team for Thailand in August. It’s time to get ready to wear the Green and Gold with pride and fight for your country.”

Seniors compete at IFMA 2017 World Championships from 3 to 13 May in Minsk Belarus. Juniors participate in Youth event from 3 to 11 August in Bangkok, Thailand.
