The fight between boxing great out of Philippines Manny Pacquiao and Brisbane’s Jeff Horn is in doubt but may still happen.
Reports said mid January that Manny Pacquiao and Jeff Horn was confirmed for April 23. The venue to accommodate the event was a subject to agree. The advised list of options included Australia, Middle East and USA.
It was done and dusted for Australian who was looking for the biggest fight in his career. Sun Corp Stadium in Brisbane was indicated as the “most likely” venue to host the showdown. This could be arguably the biggest fight in Australian history.
However a confusion emerged when Pacquiao posted several Tweets. On January 25 he asked fans who would they want to see him fight next. The following, was on February 12 when he stated “See you in UAE for my next fight. #TeamPacquiao”. Furthermore, the day after he posted a poll asking fans to choose the name from the list. Out of four boxers, Amir Khan, Jeff Horn, Terence Crawford and Kell Brook, 48% of fans voted for Khan. Horn received 7%.
Shortly after, according to The Sun, the Pacquiao vs Khan bout appeared to be “close to announcing” on May 20 in Britain. However the Top Tank founder and CEO, promoter Bob Arum described the prospect of a showdown as “total and complete bulls***”.
In addition, Pacquiao’s adviser Mike Koncz told Fox Sports News 500 that there are numerous undecided issues. “Hopefully by midweek next week we’ll have a final on everything,” he said. Although on February 12 Gulf News quoted Koncz say that they “have executed the agreement and 100 per cent the fight will be here in the UAE”.
