Glory Kickboxing announces a new main event for its 41st promotion.
Glory 41 Holland is held on May 20 in Den Bosch. Robin van Roosmalen (37-7, 21 KO) vs Petchpanomrung Kiatmookao (156-35-2, 25) for the vacant featherweight title was expected to headline the show. However this week the organization revealed that Dutch Rico Verhoeven (50-10, 14 KO) is returning to action in the headliner of the upcoming gala. The previously announced main event now governs the program of the Super Fight Series.
Verhoeven is a current title holder in the heavyweight class. His most recent bout was last December in Germany where he won by TKO in Round 2 against Badr Hari.
Glory 41 Holland: Verhoeven vs Lazaar
Dutch-Moroccan Ismael Lazaar (30-2-2, 15 KO) takes on, the 2016 Fighter of the Year in Glory, Rico Verhoeven. The 26-year-old is a former Enfusion heavyweight champion. He is currently the number one contender. Lazaar has won four of his last five fights. His tale of the tape includes the victories over Andrew Thomson, Thomas Vanneste and Daniel Sam. It is understood that the Verhoeven vs Lazaar five-rounder at Glory 41 Holland is not a title fight.
In addition, the Glory 41 Holland fight card comprises three heavyweight bouts. The program is a one-night, 4-man contender tournament. To take all, the fighter has to win two bouts during one evening. The names of the challengers are not yet announced.
The Glory 41 Super Fight Series fight card also includes the light heavyweight encounter between ranked No.8 Michael Duut (40-6, 17 KO) of Holland and ranked No.9 Dutch-Tunisian Mourad Bouzidi (79-22-2, 34 KO). The organization has also added the welterweight bout between ranked No. 4 Murthel Groenhart (64-22-3, 37) of Netherlands and ranked No.5 Armenian-Belgian Harut Grigorian (44-10, 32 KO). The middleweight bout between Mike Lemaire of the US and Zhou Wei of China is no longer on the card. The rest of the matchmaking is currently in works.
