Volkanovski vs Hirota tops up UFC Auckland fight card
UFC Auckland: Volkanovski vs Hirota

Volkanovski vs Hirota added to UFC Fight Night 110: Lewis vs Hunt

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to New Zealand on Sunday June 11. UFC Fight Night 110: Lewis vs Hunt is held at 12.000 seat Vector Arena. The show airs on FS1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass. The featherweight bout between Australian Alex Volkanovski and Japanese Mizuto Hirota tops up the six-fight bill the promotion has announced during the last four weeks.

Australia’s Alex Volkanovski (14-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) made his debut in UFC last November in Melbourne. He defeated Yusuke Kasuya of Japan taking the Round 2 TKO with punches at UFC Fight Night 101: Whittaker vs Brunson. In February Volkanovski was also expected to make his debut in North America. However the bout against Michel Quinones at UFC Fight Night 105 in Halifax was cancelled reportedly due to an injury suffered by Quinones in training.

The representative of the “Land of the Rising Sun”, Mizuto Hirota (18-7-2 MMA, 1-2-1 UFC) is a long-time MMA competitor. He fought at numerous promotions including Strikeforce, Shooto and K-1 Dynamite. His most recent bout was a decision victory against American Cole Miller last December in Sacramento.

With the addition of Alex Volkanovski (14-1) vs Mizuto Hirota (18-7-2), to date UFC Auckland fight card comprises seven bouts. On the top of the program Mark Hunt (12-11-1, 1 NC) faces off with Derrick Lewis (18-4-0, 1 NC).

Also, Dan Kelly (13-1-0) takes on Derek Brunson (16-5-0). Ben Nguyen (16-6-0) goes up against Joseph Benavidez (25-4-0). Ashkan Mokhtarian (13-1-0) battles out against John Moraga (16-6-0). As well on the program Dan Hooker (14-7-0) vs Ross Pearson (21-13-0, 1NC) and Damien Brown (17-9-0) vs Vinc Pichel (9-1-0).
