UFC 213: Nunes vs Shevchenko 2 is held on July 8 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Robert Whittaker (19-4-0) can make history as the first Australian to win UFC title. Sydney-based fighter faces off Yoel Romero (12-1-0) of Cuba for the UFC middleweight interim championship. The bout features on the program at the upcoming UFC 213 promotion in Las Vegas where Amanda Nunes battles out against Valentina Shevchenko in defense of the woman’s bantamweight belt.

Whittaker vs Romero takes the place of a previously expected bantamweight championship between Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw. The contest was cancelled due to a sustained back injury of Garbrandt.

The interim championship in the UFC is similar to boxing, when the current title holder is unable to defend the title due to an injury. In the case of the UFC middleweight belt, the bout between the current champion Michael Bisping and Georges St-Pierre has been postponed. Therefore the winners of each of these bouts will meet for the championship unification.

Romero is riding an eight-fight winning streak. He is ranked No.1 in the division. Ranked No.3 Whittaker is victorious in seven of his latest bouts.

UFC 213 features on the program at the annual UFC Fight Week. To date the list of announced bouts looks as the following:

Women’s Bantamweight title: Amanda Nunes vs. Valentina Shevchenko
Interim Middleweight title: Robert Whittaker vs.Yoel Romero
