UFC 212: Featherweight Championship Unification

UFC 212 is held on Saturday June 3 at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro. The program is a twelve fight bill. The main card comprises five bouts live on Pay-Per-View.

In the main event a current UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo (26-2-0) of Brazil squares off against No.1 ranked Max Holloway (17-3-0) of the US. The latter is also an interim champion. As a result the scheduled for five rounds encounter is a championship unification. Consequently, a new undisputed featherweight champion will be crowned on the night.

Aldo had been a title holder for a number of years prior he faced a defeated against the star out of Ireland Conor McGregor in 2015. In the following bout Brazilian defeated American Frankie Edgar and earned an interim belt. Last November “The Notorious” vacated the title and Aldo was promoted promoted to an undisputed champion.

Holloway took an interim title last December when he TKO’d Anthony Pettis in the third round. Since 2014 he is riding a ten-fight winning streak.

The co-main event is a woman’s strawweight contest. A former title challenger and ranked No.1 Claudia Gadelha (14-2-0) of Brazil faces off ranked No.2 Karolina Kowalkiewicz (10-1-0) of Poland.
