The next event of Japanese MMA promotion SEiZA is held on Friday July 28 in Tokyo.
SEiZA is a women’s Mixed Martial Arts contest. Sub-titled as the “Girl’s Budo Entertainment” the project of Noboru Yamaguchi aspires to top up the level of entertainment in the Land of the Rising Sun. It includes both, an aspect of a full contact fighting as well as the elements of the reality show.
The program showcases the female athletes representing different nationalities and fighting disciplines. They face off on the mat in defense of the colors of their country flag and the team.
The rules of SEiZA are adopted for Japanese audience and television; most of all for the safety of the female contestants. The used gloves are small like in MMA, but with more padding. There is no use of elbow blows, knees to the head and strikes on the ground. The choke techniques and wrestling arsenal are taken from Judo and Ju-Jitsu.
The pilot was held in January when the WKN Top Team out of Greece squared off against an international squad SEiZA. The most recent event was promoted in May with Team SEiZA taking on Team Zen Do Kai. The next show is held on Friday July 28 at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo. The fight card has not yet been announced.
The official partner is the World Kickboxing Network headed by Stephane Cabrera. Last week the organization announced another MMA show in Japan it produces with famed Sadaharu Tanikawa called Ganryujima.
