Glory 42 results: Doumbe takes split decision against Holzken, retains welterweight kickboxing title

Kickboxing promotion Glory 42 was held on Saturday June 10 at the AccorHottels Arena in Paris. The event featured five bouts on ESPN 2 that followed a six-fight program on UFC Fight Pass.

In the main event Cedric Doumbe of France faced off Nikey Holzken of Holland. The representative of the country-host was battling out in the second defense of the welterweight title. Dutchman, a former champion in the division, highly anticipated to take a revenge for the last year’s defeat, as well as reclaim the belt.

After five rounds of action the judges decision split proclaiming “Doumced” as the winner. As a result he retains the title that he won against Holzken last December in Germany and then defended against Yoann Kongolo in March in Brussels.

The program featured a lightweight contender tournament. Christian Baya of Holland came out as a winner taking the split decision victories against Anatoly Moiseef of Russia and his team mate at Mike’s Gym Massaro Glunder. The latter knocked out Niklas Larsen of Denmark in the semi-final.

An infamous highlight of the night turned to be a welterweight clash between Murthel Groenhart of Holland and Harut Grigorian of Belgium. Dutch fighter produced a jumping scissor knee. After that Grigorian dropped his hands down, turned away and started walking to his corner. Groenhart followed him and landed the right hook, producing a devastating knockout.

The referee opened an eight-count and immediately waved off the fight. While Groenhart remained in the corner he was jumped by several men from the crowd. The insanity lasted for several moments and was settled after the security and officials entered the ring.

As explained since the referee didn’t stop the fight no illegal action was made by the Dutchmam. Groenhart was awarded a victory by knockout. The official time of the stoppage was not announced.

In the headliner of Glory 42 Super Fight Series Yoann Kongolo of Switzerland earned a unanimous decision against Yohan Lidon of France. In the second bout from the top a representative of the WKN Top Team out of France Nicolas Wamba similarly defeated Brazilian Jhonata Diniz at heavyweight. Complete results can be found below.
