International kickboxing returns to Malta with Gladiators Fight Night 18 held on Saturday October 28.
Under umbrella of World Kickboxing Network, Malta has became a prominent member of Kickboxing Planet. Few years back the country crowned its first World Champion Daniel “The Jet” Zahra.
Numerous Maltese athletes, such as Ruben Azzopardi and Christopher Rotin, just to name a couple, travel the Globe, partaking in various WKN championship events. The list includes kickboxing series Simply the Best in Belgium, World Cup in Iran, among others. The current roster features a newly titled European lightweight champion Keith Azzopardi, who scored the decision against French Mathias Branchu at Battle of Saint-Raphael 5 last month.
An upcoming event, Gladiators Fight Night 18 is a pro-amateur European kickboxing championship. The announced program features Maltese fighters up against the representatives of Sardinia, Switzerland and Northern Ireland.
In the main event Maltese Piscopo Jesred is up against Guliano Lai of Sardinia. The pair battles out for the WKN European pro-amateur lightweight belt.
Among others bouts expect on the card, lightweight Keith Azzopardi takes on Sardinia’s Alessandro Caredda. The middleweight representative of the country-host Shaun Falzon faces off Federico Spada also of Sardinia. As well, local Diane Schembri goes up against Northern Ireland’s Rowena Bolt at women’s flyweight.
In addition, lightweight Aiden Borg Catania squares the differences with Swiss Killian Emery. The bout is a rematch following their encounter in September 2016 in Northern Ireland, where the latter took the victory by decision.
