World Kickboxing Network – Latvia
Earlier this week WKN World President Stephane Cabrera has traveled to Latvia, where he had a meeting with some of the leading characters in the country’s sporting community. The discussion took place at the Elektrum Olympic Centre in Riga with Futsal President Vadim Lasenko and LNK Boxing President Jevgenijs Sapronenko (Gymnastics silver-medalist at 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens). The topic included numerous matters, including the development of sport in the country, as well as a set of future promotions.
Over the years World Kickboxing Network has promoted several championship events in Latvia, including women’s bantamweight World Title clash between Swedish Maria Elin Olsson and Turkish Seda Duygu Aygun. The country also went in history as the first place where American Hall of Fame referee Steve Smoger officiated kickboxing matches, appearing at Girl Power 1 Liepaja.
In addition, two episodes of the Bigger’s Better Boxing series were produced in Latvia in 2012-2013. The likes of World Champion Mairies Briedis and Konstantin Gluhov battled out at the events.
The list of the upcoming events in Latvia is expected to be announced in the near future. We will have more information as soon as it becomes available.
