The Battle: Promoter Talk
The world-class gala The Battle 17 was held this past Sunday (Dec. 10) in Athens. The event featured a mixed-fight international bill with two WKN titles contested on the night.
After the event, the promoter Stefanos Konstantinidis told FIGHTMAG that this year’s “[The] Battle was by far the best fight show in Greece for 2017.”
The promotion collaborates with a prestigious kickboxing governing body since 2015. Over the years the events featured the likes of such famed fighters as Antonis Tzoros, Marianna Kalergi, Alexey Ignashov, among others.
“Our cooperation with World Kickboxing Network has improved our promotion, and the President Mr Stephane Cabrera has opened new ways for the top Greek fighters,” said Konstantinidis. “In three years The Battle, under WKN strategy, has become an international fight show and one of the top in Europe.”
Among the results of The Battle 17 last weekend, Greek middleweight Mixed Martial Artist Andreas Michailidis captured WKN International belt, while his country-fellow Aris Antoni successfully defended his National super welterweight title. In addition, Meletis Kakoubavas took the third-round TKO victory in the international prestige bout.
“We hope and believe that our new middleweight champion Michailidis will be ready to fight in the UFC next year,” said the promoter. “Kakoubavas succeeded to KO a big name Pavol Garaj, who fought Harut Grigorian in Glory earlier this year. So Kakoubavas is definitely ready for his next big step to take on any big name in the super welterweight class.”
Concluding Stefanos Konstantinidis said that although Greece is still under financial crises, The Battle aspires to continue the top level of event-making, being the leading promotion in the country. In addition, the WKN Greece representative has been also assisting the various others events throughout Greece, including New Heroes, Brave Night, Colosseum, GT Fight Night Round 3.
