UFC 221 Perth fight card update
UFC 221 is held on Sunday February 11 at Perth Arena. The happening is the first Pay-Per-View event Ultimate Fighting Championship produces in Western Australia, featuring the defending middleweight champion Robert Whittaker up against the former title holder, ranked No. 2 Luke Rockhold.
Nine bouts expected on the card have been revealed to date. On Friday the promotion topped up the bill with an international lightweight battle between Japanese Mizuto Hirota and Ross Pearson of England.
In his most recent bout Mizuto Hirota (18-8-2 MMA) was defeated by Australian featherweight Alexander Volkanovski at Fight Night 110. He then was expected to face Charles Rosa at Fight Night 117, but experienced the weigh cut difficulties and the fight was cancelled. As a result Hirota moves up a weight class.
Ross Pearson (19-14 MMA) lost four of his latest bouts. Appearing at Fight Night 110 he was KO’d by Dan Hooker in the second round. In three outings before that he was defeated by decision.
Earlier this week the bantamweight clash between Japanese Teruto Ishihara and Mexican Jose Quinonez has been also added to the card. Among other highly anticipated match ups at Perth Arena, “The Super Samoan” Mark Hunt faces American Curtis Blaydes.
