Here you go people, you might experience another combat sports sensation this coming year. There is quite a bit of hype at present around the potential Conor McGregor vs. Georges St-Pierre encounter inside the Octagon.
Would this fight make any sense? Well, this depends on which angle you are looking at it. Sport or entertainment? I don’t think the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor showdown in the square circle made much sense for sport either. However according to reports nearly three million people across the Globe watched it.
So if we talk sport, Mixed Martial Arts, first of all they are from different weight classes. Georges St-Pierre is welterweight-middleweight, while McGregor is lightweight. So if the two square off, it will likely be a catchweight.
If asked “who is a better fighter”, well, this question can be answered only on the night. Fight is a fight, so anything can happen, when punches, kicks, knees and elbows are thrown. However, from what I understand, when it comes to the ground work, wrestling, the bigger man has the advantage. Maybe I am wrong.
If we talk entertainment, following the “MayMac” blockbuster, this is the fight everyone would be interested to see. I think it will be something like “Who would win in a fight: Rambo vs. Terminator, or JCVD vs. Steven Seagal”, and so on.
Personally I am not a fan of any of the two, I am not a fan of anyone, really. Apart from, maybe let’s say the geniuses like Sylvester Stallone and Eminem, whose legacy speaks for itself.
However both names, Georges St-Pierre and Conor McGregor, are known enough even for those not really familiar with MMA fighting. They can perhaps be compared to Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson, although the names of the latter are of course much more renowned and recognized worldwide. This is also quite obvious, simply because The Sweet Science has a much longer history than MMA.
Will Conor McGregor vs. Georges St-Pierre happen?
Despite all the “naysay” we hear today, I think it will actually happen at some point. Remember, Mayweather vs. McGregor “was not happening” either. Now it is history, everybody’s happy and that’s about it.
The McGregor vs. GSP fight does make sense. First of all it makes money. They say “it’s all about money”.
So, let’s see what happens. If you have something to share, you can drop a comment below.
