Cris Cyborg next opponent “maybe Megan Anderson”
Mid last month we’ve learned that the second title might be contested at UFC 221 in Perth. The event takes place at Perth Arena on Sunday February 11, featuring the middleweight champion Robert Whittaker who defends his belt against Luke Rockhold.
This past Sunday, unbeaten since 2005, Brazilian Cris “Cyborg” Justino made a successful defense of her featherweight title against American Holly Holm at UFC 219 in Las Vegas. Pronounced as the winner, she then met Joe Rogan inside the Octagon, who, among everything, asked her “what’s next”.
“I would like to fight somebody at 145, maybe Megan Anderson,” said Cris Cyborg. “I would like to fight in Australia, and I have a lot of fans there.”
Cyborg (19-1, 1 NC) was meant to face Anderson (8-2) last July at UFC 214 in Anaheim. The latter was expected to make her UFC debut but pulled out due to personal issues.
Megan Anderson is the Australian fighter, relocated in the US. She is victorious in four of her most recent bouts, taking Invicta FC featherweight championship.
After Cyborg vs. Holm clash at T-Mobile Arena, Anderson posted on Twitter, suggesting that there was “only one fight” left to make in the featherweight class.
“Great fight ladies! Congrats Cris on retaining your belt!”
“UFC I think there’s only 1 fight to make now against a legit featherweight.”
There are six weeks left until UFC 221 in Perth. Ten bouts featured on the card have been announced to date.
