Japanese Mixed Martial Arts promotion Ganryujima starts a new season on Wednesday January 3. The event takes place at Maihama Amphitheater in Tokyo, featuring the eight-fight international bill. The show airs live on Fuji TV. In addition, the replay is available worldwide on FITE Pay-Per-View from January 8.
Promoting the “Way of Samurai”, Ganryujima events feature the bouts in the format of “Style vs. Style”. The contests are held on a flat circle, with the rules equivalent to typical MMA bouts, excluding submissions.
The roster of the upcoming show includes the representatives of Sumo, Karate, Judo, Kickboxing, Systema and other Martial Arts. Among the bouts Katsunori Kikuno faces Michihiro Omigawa. Shouma Sivixay takes on Brian Douwes. Evgeny Shalomaev battles out against Carlos Toyota.
The founder of Ganryujima is the former K-1 executive Sadaharu Tanikawa, who launched the project in November 2014. Since 2016 the promotion collaborates with a prestigious kickboxing governing World Kickboxing Network (WKN).
