A special meeting between the new Thailand Minister of Tourism and Sports Weerasak Kowsurat, who replaced Kobkarn Wattanavrankul late last year, and the officials of International Federation of Muaythai Amateur (IFMA) and World Muay Thai Council recently took place in Bangkok. The sports governing was represented by IFMA President Dr Sakchye Tapsuwan, WMC President General Chetta Thanajaro, IFMA General Secretary & WMC Vice President Stephan Fox, and Sports Director Charissa Tynan. The meeting was also attended by Vice President of the Amateur Association of Thailand Kajorn Prowsree, among others.
Among everything, the two upcoming Muay Thai events held in Thailand this year were discussed with the Minister. The list includes FISU World University Championships held from 23 to 31 July in Pattaya, and the 2018 Youth World Championships held from 3 to 11 August in Bangkok. The Minister thanked everyone for all the hard work, and outlined that Thailand will continue to support and solely recognize IFMA as the Muay Thai member in the Olympic family.
Fox, in his capacity as GAISF Vice President, made a detailed presentation to Minister on some of activities planned on the upcoming SportAccord Convention in which 2000 leaders of the world in sport will travel to Bangkok. He also thanked again on behalf of the over 100 recognized international federations and organisations of GAISF for Thailand to host this important convention.
This year IFMA Muay Thai World Championships takes place in Cancun, Mexico. The event is held from from 10 to May 19.
