Muay Thai World Championships 2018
The ten-day Muay Thai fiesta, IFMA World Championships 2018 is held in Cancun, Mexico from Thursday May 10 to Saturday May 19. Following a stunning opening ceremony, the athletes stepped inside the square circle this past Saturday, kicking off the first day of competition. The seven-hour fight action was held across two rings.
“One of the stand-out bouts was at 63.5kg when Thai champion Sawarat Kusari faced American’s Asa Tenpow. Fast-paced from the opening bell, Asa soon put the presure on with spinning back-kicks and powerful body-punches. Sawarat is a very technical athlete but in the end could not withstand the storm, and bowed out of the tournament,” International Federation of Muaythai Amateur stated in the report.
“Another exciting and high-decibel battle saw Belarus’ Andrei Kulebin, usually a crowd favorite face local athlete Marco Antonio Fuentes Garibay. The 3-rounder was full of surprises but Kulebin stayed focused on the win taking a points victory with clever use of high-kicks, and strong teeps mixed with fast hands combinations. The crowd stood to their feet for the young Mexican athlete.”
The full fight results are available at IFMAlive.com. The bouts are transmitted on organization’s official channel on YouTube.
With 78 Nations participating, IFMA World Championships 2018 in Concun is also a qualifying tournament for The World Games 2021. The prestigious sporting event immediately after Olympic Games is held from July 15 to July 25 in Birmingham, Alabama.
