Vitaly Gurkov, 31, is a middleweight muaythai fighter and kickboxer from Minsk, Belarus. Initially fighting in the super flyweight division, junior Gurkov won the IFMA 2001 European cup in Ukraine. Over the years he has competed in various divisions, winning numerous championships throughout the world. His recent gold medal claim was in May at IFMA 2016 in Sweden. This is where Gurkov defeated Ekkaphan Somboonsab of Thailand in the finals of the competition. To date he is the 11-time world champion.
Vitaly Gurkov has also made his name in the professional circuits. Among everything he is the 2012 Thai Fight finalist in Bangkok, where he battled out against Buakaw Banchamek. In 2014 he defeated Kem Sitsongpeenong in Milan, as a result becoming a new WBC world champion. In addition Gurkov took on Giorgio Petrosyan in Korea in 2010, and he is also the winner of the 2007 8-man tournament in Australia. Gurkov has also competed in such countries as USA, Russia, Latvia and Macedonia.
This past Sunday in Mayang Vitaly Gurkov faced off a prominent fighter from Kazakhstan, Mergen Bilyalov. The second is a regular participant of kickboxing events in China. The K-1 rules bout featured on the card at FPC event. The bout went on distance. The verdict from the judges proclaimed a unanimous decision in the favor of the representative of Belarus.
Earlier this year Vitaly Gurkov was penciled to face off Toby Smith for the WKN middleweight world at Domination fight show in Perth. The bout has been postponed. Gurkov is a potential match for Daniel “The Rock Dawson” who returned to the ring last October against John Wayne Parr, as well as for JWP himself.
