Mid last year “The Gunslinger” signed a three-fight deal with the organization. It was revealed that his first fight would be in Italy although the name of the opponent remained unknown. The fans, media and Parr himself assumed he would likely go up against “The Doctor”, Giorgio Petrosyan.

“Soon as I heard I was fighting in Italy I thought for sure my opponent would be Petrosyan,” Parr told fightmag.com. “It would have been an honor to fight him in his home country.”

Nevertheless the next opponent for Australian competitor is Nando Calzetta. The bout is at 72.5 kg. The tale of the tape of Italian fighter includes the world title winning over Fadi Merza of Austria. He has also fought popular kickboxers including Frenchman Karim Benmansour and Romanian Amansio Paraschiv. Petrosyan also features on the card facing off Paraschiv in the 70 kg bout.

The 40-year-old champion from the Gold Coast, John Wayne Parr highly anticipates the happening. He is “very excited to have the opportunity to fight for a well established company like Bellator”.

In three latest bouts Parr defeated Matthew Richardson of Canada, his country-fellow Daniel Dawson and Greek Pavlos Kaponis. Fighting since early 90’s he has competed internationally with numerous bouts in Thailand, Japan, China, Singapore, England and USA. An upcoming contest is his return to Italy since 2004.

“Ever since I started martial arts it’s always been about going on international adventures. Representing Australia.”
