Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson face off in the rematch at UFC 209 on Saturday March 4 in Las Vegas.
Current welterweight champion out of the United States Tyron Woodley (16-3-1) is fighting his country-fellow Stephen Thompson (13–1–1) in defense of his belt. Woodley made a performance of the night at UFC 201 where he knocked Robbie Lawler out in the first round. Consequently he became a new title holder. Thompson is the number one contender who has already challenged Woodley for the belt. Their encounter at UFC 205 last November ended in a majority draw.
As a result the pair squares off for the second time. The five-round bout headlines UFC 209 live on Pay-Per-View. At the official weigh-in ceremony the champion hit the scales at 170 pounds (77,1 kg). The challenger showed 169 pounds (76.6 kg).
The main card on PPV comprises four bouts. American Rashad Evans (186) is fighting Australian Daniel Kelly (186). Lando Vannata (156) of the US is going up against David Teymur (156) of Sweden. Furthermore Alistair Overeem (256) of Netherlands and Mark Hunt (265) of Australia are battling out in the rematch. Female bout Amanda Cooper (116) vs Cynthia Calvillo (115.5) was shifted to the main card due to Nurmagomedov vs Ferguson fell off.
The prelims on FS1 is a four-fight bill. Marcin Tybura (251.5) of Poland is taking on Luis Henrique (248.5) of Brazil. Mirsad Bektic (145) of Bosnia is facing off Darren Elkins (145.5) of the US. In addition on the program Iuri Alcantara (135.5) of Brazil vs Luke Sanders (135) of the US and Mark Godbeer (241.5) of England vs Daniel Spitz (240) of the US.
Tyson Pedro (205) of Australia vs Paul Craig (204) of Scotland governs the prelims on the UFC Fight Pass. Also on the card American fighters Albert Morales (135.5) vs Andre Soukhamthath (136).
Cancelled: Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson
“UFC lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov was transported to Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center Thursday evening due to weight management medical issues. He was treated and has been discharged,” UFC released.
“The scheduled interim lightweight championship bout between Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson at UFC 209 has been cancelled on the doctor’s recommendation.”
