Mark Hunt vs Derrick Lewis is expected to headline UFC Fight Night 110.
Fresh of the win against Travis Browne last month in Canada, American fighter Derrick Lewis (18-4-1) said that Mark Hunt (12-11-1, 1 NC) is the man he wants to fight next. Earlier this month, talking about the upcoming UFC Fight Night in Auckland, the senior vice president and head of international content at UFC, Joe Carr said that the latter, if fit, is the “logical choice” for the event.
On Monday MMAjunkie.com posted that “people with knowledge” revealed that the Lewis vs Hunt fight is in works. Although no fights on the card have been officially announced by the promotion.
Derrick Lewis posted a Tweet on Tuesday announcing the contest against “The Super Samoan” at UFC Fight Night 110. “My next opponent is Mark Hunt in New Zealand June 10th #FoxSports1,” he wrote.
The most recent fight of Hunt was on March 4 in Las Vegas at UFC 209: Woodley vs Thompson 2. He went up against Alistair Overeem facing a knockout defeat in Round 3.
Post-event Hunt posted a photo on Instagram with the caption advising about the leg injury. As a result, he is under a medical suspension until April 19.
UFC Fight Night 110 is held on June 11 at Vector Arena. Derek Brunson and Dan Kelly are also expected to square off on the night in the middleweight bout.
The event is the first promotion in New Zealand in three years. The previous gala, UFC Fight Night: Te Huna vs. Marquardt, was held in June 2014.
