Marina Spasic Partakes in Girl Power 3 Kickboxing Tourney

Female kickboxing tournament Girl Power 3 airs live on SFR Sport 5 on Friday June 23.

The 22-year-old Marina Spasic (21, 8 KOs – 7 – 0) is a featherweight kickboxer out of Serbia. Fighting out of “Kik boks klub Sindjelic” in Belgrade, she is the first revealed participant of the 8-woman kickboxing tournament Girl Power 3.

The “Girl Power” is a series of female kickboxing tournaments produced by the Bigger’s Better Boxing. In February the “BB” presented the concept to SFR Sport 5. On Monday the organization announced the 10-event deal with the network. In addition, the pilot was streamed live on Pay-Per-View in 2014.

Marina Spasic competed in Girl Power 2 Stara Zagora

Spasic took the challenge on a short notice as a replacement for the injured fighter from Germany. She went up to the semi-final.

“I was called to participate in the BB Girl Power just few days before the tournament. I was in a good shape, so we accepted the invitation without thinking, says Spasic. “Eager to show my skills and I was so happy that I finally took part in a show under WKN umbrella.”

In the opening round Serbian fighter earned a unanimous decision over Laura Follereau of France. In the next bout she suffered a split decision defeat against, also French, Mallaury Kalachnikoff, who has later taken all tournament.

“Now when I go back, in general I am not really satisfaid with my perfomance in Stara Zagora. I am certain I will do much better next time,” says the first announced competitor at Girl Power 3, Marina Spasic.

“In my first fight I won on points. My opponent had two 8 counts but the fight was sloppy. I didn’t give my best as I was nervous and I didn’t listen to my coach.”

“I knew that the fight was televised in a dozen of different countries and that my performance had to be better. And I think it was in the second fight.”

“Even though I lost, I was much happier with my performance than in the first fight. It was a close call, I lost by split decision.”

“When the fight finished we thought I won, but honestly it was to close to call. I think I did more damage, and my hits were stronger. But on the other side she was more active.”

“But at the end of the day, judges ruled in her favor and I don’t complain. When we meet again I will try to end it before the last bell, then there won’t be any doubts.”

Girl Power 3

Girl Power 3 is held on Friday June 23 live on European television network SFR Sport 5. The country-host has not yet been revealed. Alongside Spasic, the World Kickboxing Network has announced two other targeted athletes for the show, Ashley Gilson of Belgium and Laetitia Madjene of France. Despite who is on the card, Serbian contender is confident in her win, aiming the WKN belt.

“I was invited to take part in next BB Girl Power and I am thrilled about it” says Spasic. “I have enough time to prepare for the fights, to set the form, tactics… Everything.

“I will show up there in my best. Not taking the belt home to Serbia will be a big disappointment for me. That belt is mine!”
