Girl Power: Maria Elin Olsson vs Seda Duygu Aygun for WKN World bantamweight kickboxing title

Throwback Thursday rewinds five years back and brings us to Arena Riga in Latvia. This is where the famed Bigger’s Better Boxing produced the Super Finale of Season 2. BB King 2012 aired live on Eurosport on Friday, December 14, 2012.

The highlight of the event was the challenge for a prestigious World Kickboxing Network title. The bout featured on the program right before the final clash of the heavyweights, Mairis Briedis vs. Fabrice Aurieng for BB crown.

Maria Elin Olsson of Sweden faced off against Seda Duygu Aygun of Turkey. The contest was for the WKN women’s bantamweight title.

The scheduled for five rounds championship bout ended prior the final bell. In the first two rounds both athletes put on a predominately equal versatile performance.

However, Olsson showed much more dominance in the third, scoring two eight counts. In the next round she accelerated even more, leaving Aygun desperate, furthermore forcing her to basically withdraw from the challenge. The referee Klaus Hagemann reached ten, which officially terminated the contest, proclaiming the representative of Sweden as the winner by TKO.

In summary, Maria Elin Olsson was titled as a new WKN women’s bantamweight champion. She received the belt from the hands of the WKN World President Stephane Cabrera.

Fight Like a Girl

The following year the Bigger’s Better produced the third season of BB Boxing, broadcasting nine episodes of the heavyweight tournaments. In addition, the organization promoted numerous IBA (International Boxing Association) championship bouts also live on Eurosport.

In 2014 the group presented the pilot of Girl Power kickboxing series live on Pay-Per-View. Moreover, the event went in history as a debut of the Hall of Fame boxing referee Steve Smoger in officiating the matches in kickboxing.

Earlier this year the promotion has announced the two-season program of Girl Power live on European network SFR Sport 5. Aspiring to promote the opportunities for women in sport, on June 23 the “BB” brings the third Girl Power series to Golden Sands.
