UFC 214 Cormier vs Jones 2: light heavyweight title at stake

Honda Center in Ahaeim, CA accommodates the pay-per-view event UFC 214 on Saturday July 29. To date the promotion announced nine bouts that are expected to feature on the card.

In the main event the current UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier (19-1-0) faces off his American-fellow Jon Jones (22-1-0) in defense of the belt. The bout is a rematch following their 2015 encounter when Jones, champion at that time, defended the title earning a unanimous decision at UFC 182 in Las Vegas. He was later stripped of the title reportedly in connection with a hit-and-run incident that he was involved in.

As a result the title became vacant, with Cormier winning the belt against Anthony Johnson at UFC 187 the same year. He has also made two defenses against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 192 in October 2015 and again defeated Johnson at UFC 210 in April. Jones last fought in April 2016 when he earned a unanimous decision against Ovince Saint Preux at UFC 197.

An expected UFC 214 card also includes two featherweight bouts. Doo Ho Choi (14-2-0) of Korea is up against Andre Fili (16-4-0) of the US. As well Ricardo Lamas (17-5-0) of the US takes on Chan Sung Jung (14-4-0) of Korea.

In addition, Aljamain Sterling (13-2-0) of the US battles out against Brazilian Renan Barao (35-4-0, 1NC) at Bantamweight. The most recently announced match is a lightweight encounter between Sage Northcutt (8-2) of the US face off Claudio Puelles (7-2) of Peru.
