UFC star Conor McGregor wants to face off Khabib Nurmagomedov in octagon, after boxing showdown with Floyd Mayweather.
“The Notorious” Conor McGregor takes on Floyd Mayweather in the boxing biggest “What if” fight on August 26 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. However the UFC lightweight champion certainly aspires to return to MMA fighting. Moreover he is ready to put the belt on the line taking on Khabib Nurmagomedov in Russia.
“You know what Conor told me? He said, ‘I want Khabib in Russia,'” the UFC President Dana White told MMAjunkie. “Isn’t he f******* awesome? He’s like, ‘I want Khabib, in Russia.’ He’s awesome. Conor McGregor is a f******* unicorn. There’s nothing like him. He’s working on boxing Floyd Mayweather and then he’s talking about fighting Khabib in Russia right after.”
If the McGregor vs Nurmagomedov fight happens in Russia, it will be the debut of the UFC in the country. In addition, it will be McGregor’s first defense since he has won the lightweight belt against Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in November 2016.
The additional aspect is that White wants the previously scheduled fight Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson for the interim title to finally happen. The bout was cancelled three times with the most recent fell off at UFC 209 in March with Dagestan fighter being hospitalized “due to weight management medical issues”.
It appears that McGregor believes in the victorious outcome for Nurmagomedov if he fights Ferguson. Consequently, McGregor and Nurmagomedov will battle out in a championship unification bout.
