Boxing match between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Conor McGregor takes its place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday August 26. A 12-round light heavyweight encounter appears to be the biggest “what if” fight in the whole history of combat sports to date.
On one side there is a future Hall of Famer, a five-division world champion “Money” Mayweather, who is one win away to beat the 49-0 record of the legendary Rocky Marciano. On the other side there is a current UFC lightweight champion, “The Notorious” McGregor who is arguably one punch away to shock the entire world.
With three and a half weeks remaining till the day of the big bang, Floyd Mayweather posted an image on his profile on Instagram. “McGregor… Let’s fight in 8 oz gloves,” says the graphic.
“Don’t believe what you hear in the media. Don’t believe what you hear on blog sites. If it’s not coming directly from me, then it’s not true,” Mayweather wrote in the caption.
“I’m telling McGregor, “Let’s fight in 8 oz gloves”. McGregor can fight in any brand he prefers or chooses. I’ll be wearing 8 oz Grant gloves. Whatever advantage McGregor needs to feel more comfortable in the ring, I’m willing to accommodate.”
“Let’s give the boxing and MMA fans what they want to see,” he wrote in conclusion.
