Jeff Horn vs Manny Pacquiao rematch confirmed
With a rematch clause in the contract boxing great out of Philippines Manny Pacquiao has a chance to regain the WBO World welterweight title that he lost to Australian Jeff Horn on July 2 at Suncorp Stadium. Their pair battles out for the second time back in Brisbane later this year. The exact date is expected to be announced in the near future.
On Monday morning it was reported that Brisbane City Council has withdrawn its financial support for a rematch until the point it would be confirmed that Pacquiao is definitely coming back to Australia to fight Horn. Later on the day Lord Mayor Graham Quirk told ABC that during an emergency meeting with the fight promoters, it was “confirmed that Manny Pacquiao will definitely be in Brisbane this year for a rematch with Jeff Horn.”
“This opportunity really rested with Manny Pacquiao. It was the defender of the title going in to that bout who had the opportunity to have a rematch. We are in a position now where Brisbane Marketing will be reengaged to get involved in the negotiation process,” said Cr Quirk.
As understood, Brisbane City Council and Brisbane Marketing again appear as a backbone of the bout. Cr Quirk advised that the details of a renewed contract are being “worked through”, “but the good news is that Manny Pacquiao will definitely be here to fight Jeff Horn this year”. The venue to accommodate the event is also to be determined.
