Floyd Mayweather TKO’s Conor McGregor in Round 10

Floyd Mayweather 50-0, McGregor makes pro-boxing debut

Five-division world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. and UFC lightweight title holder Conor McGregor squared off in a catchweight (154 / 69.8) 12-round boxing match on Saturday August 26. The bout took its place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Showtime PPV.

The start of the contest was slightly delayed reportedly due to pay-per-view outages in the US. It has also been confirmed that McGregor has put on almost 8kg since the official weigh-in conducted on Friday.

The fight didn’t go the distance, however lasted longer than expected. It was all over when the referee stopped the contest almost two minutes into the 10th round.

Ultimately, Mayweather updated his record to 50-0 and retired as one of the greatest boxers of all time. For McGregor it was his pro-debut in the square circle.

Both made a lot of money.

Mayweather vs McGregor undercard results

On the top of the under card American Gervonta Davis stopped Francisco Fonseca of Costa Rica in the eighth round. Davis was originally scheduled to fight in defense of the IBF super featherweight title, but was stripped of the belt when he showed two pounds over the 130 (58.9 kg) limit at the weigh-in.

In addition, Davis was booed after being proclaimed as the winner. Many felt the crucial shot appeared to be an illegal blow landed to the back of the head.

Also on the night Swede Badou Jack took the fifth-round TKO victory against Nathan Cleverly of England. As a result he became a new WBA ‘regular’ light heavyweight champion. As well, Andrew Tabiti defeated his American-fellow Steve Cunningham by decision, taking USBA cruiserweight belt.

The preliminary card featured Cuban welterweight Yordenis Ugas scoring a decision against Thomas Dulorme of Puerto Rico. American welterweight Juan Heraldez similarly defeated Mexican Jose Miguel Borrego also at welterweight.

In addition Antonio Hernandez defeated Kevin Newman in all-American super middleweight bout. England’s Savannah Marshall made a victorious pro debut taking a decision against American Sydney LeBlanc, who also made her debut, at women’s super middleweight.

Numerous celebrities, as well as boxing great Mike Tyson, among others, attended the event. Demi Lovato sang national anthem.
