International kickboxing returns to Greece on Sunday December 10 with “The Battle 17 by WKN”. The initial announcement has been made in September, with the exact date formally set on Wednesday.

“World-class kickboxing returns to Greece on December 10 with The Battle 17 held on December 10,” World Kickboxing Network announced earlier this morning. “The event takes place at Taekwondo Olympic Arena, featuring a series of championship and rating bouts with the elite Greek athletes up against international opponents.”

The Battle is known as the leading kickboxing promotion in Greece. Over the years the event featured the likes of Alexey Ignashov, Antonis Tzoros, Murthel Groenheart, Colin George, Pavlos Kaponis, Marianna Kalergi, among other notable fighters. The previous edition was held in April 2016, when Greek super heavyweight Antonis Tzoros stopped Poland’s Wieslaw Kwasniewski in the third round.

The promoter of the event is Stefanos Konstantinidis. In addition, the WKN Greece representative has been assisting the various promotions throughout the country, including New Heroes, Brave Night, Colosseum, GT Fight Night Round 3.

According to the Greek website uFight, several names expected at The Battle 17 have been revealed to date. The list includes Meletis Kakoumpavas, Sofia Karga, Petros Vardakas and Andreas Michailidis. The full fight card is expected to be formally announced in the coming weeks.

Finalizing the year, The Battle 17 is the fourth international event World Kickboxing Network promotes in December. The schedule includes Simply the Best 17 Farciennes in Belgium, Invictus Arena 24 in Italy, Nuit des Challenges 17 in France, and the World Championship event Coello vs. Goncalves in Spain.
