World Muay Thai Angels Season 2

The semi-final bouts of the women’s contest “Muay Thai Angels” were held last night (Saturday November 18) at U-Tapao International Airport in Phla, Thailand. The event followed the opening round, that launched the second season in April.

Among the bouts the winner of WMA 2014 Thai Chommanee Sor Taehiran scored the decision against Lucy Payne, representing England. As well, Portuguese Maria Lobo similarly defeated American Natalie Morgan. In addition, South African Yolanda Schmidt took the decision against the representative of the country-host Namtarn Por Muengpetch.

Muay Thai Angels is a single-elimination tournament at the 57 kg weight class. During the season the competitors battle out in a knockout system. The defeated fighter of each bout is immediately eliminated, while the winner advances closer to the final.

It is unclear why the promotion has held the round of semifinals featuring three bouts, skipping the expected quarter-final, following the initial 16-fighter draw. The date and place of the final, as well as the championship match-up out of the three winners of the last night’s event is yet to be known. We will have more information as soon as it becomes available.
