The dream came true for Iraqi-English kickboxer Riyadh Al-Azzawi who battled out in front of his home crowd on Friday November 25. “The Golden Champion” faced Tanislav Tomashevkii of Poland, in the scheduled for five rounds super cruiserweight bout.

However the contest didn’t go the distance, ending prior the final bell. Several times Al-Azzawi sent his opponent to the canvas with the spinning back kick. The referee stopped the bout in the middle of the opening round, proclaiming the representative of the country-host as the winner by TKO.

“It was an honour to represent Iraq in front of my people after so many years away. I would like to dedicate this victory to my country, friends and all those who helped with this event,” Al-Azzawi captioned the photo posted on Instagram after the event.

In kickboxing circuits Riyadh Al-Azzawi earned recognition, winning prestigious WKN World super cruiserweight Full Contact title in 2008. The following years he has also made three successful defenses of the belt.

In addition, in 2014 Al-Azzawi made international headlines with his gold-platted Ferrari. In 2016 he was featured on the cover of FIGHTMAG, alongside American hall of fame referee Steve Smoger.
