UFC 221: Second title ‘very possible’, tickets on sale Friday

UFC 221: Whittaker vs. Rockhold

UFC 221 takes place at Perth Arena on Sunday February 11. The event makes history when Ultimate Fighting Championship makes its debut in Western Australia.

The main event is a five-round title clash, featuring the reigning UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker who defends his belt against the former titleholder Luke Rockhold. Their pair faced off for the first time on Tuesday at the press conference held in the city-host of the event.

In addition to the first ever UFC title contested in the most remote city in the world, the fight card might include the second title quest. UFC Vice President of Asia Pacific Kevin Chang said that “that’s what the matchmakers are looking into”.

“Yeah, it’s definitely very possible,” said Chang. “And right now, that’s what the matchmakers are looking into.”

“Nothing is confirmed as far as a second title fight yet. But that’s definitely something that’s being looked into.”

Mark Hunt

Meanwhile, K-1 kickboxing legend turned UFC star Mark Hunt is also expected to battle out at UFC 221. “The Super Samoan” wants to fight “someone in the top 10”.

“Someone above me,” Hunt told Sporting News. “All I can see is that Werdum is the only one available.”

“If I can get over Werdum, I should be next in line to fight the champ. I could be champ by next year. Now it’s just about getting Werdum to say yes.”
