UFC 221: Hunt vs Blaydes

UFC 221 takes place at Perth Arena on Sunday February 11, marking the debut of Ultimate Fighting Championship in Western Australia. The main event features the reigning middleweight champion Robert Whittaker who defends his belt against the former champion Luke Rockhold. Furthermore, on Thursday famed Mark Hunt has been formally added to the fight card.

Ranked number five in the heavyweight class Mark Hunt has called out Brazilian Fabricio Werdum (ranked No.3), aspiring to face an opponent with a higher ranking in the division. According to the reports, the latter, however, didn’t accept the challenge, and another opponent has been announced to take on “The Super Samoan” in Perth.

American Curtis Blaydes (8-1-0, 1NC) is the man who goes up against K-1 kickboxing legend turned UFC star Mark Hunt. In his recent bouts he took the second-round TKO victory against Aleksei Oleinik, scored a unanimous decision over Daniel Omielanczuk, and knocked out Cody East in the second round. He is ranked No.9.

In addition, it has been reported that the second championship bout may be featured on the card. The tickets for UFC 221 go on sale this Friday December 15 via Ticketek.

Other match ups are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. The current lineup can be found below.
