Rocky Balboa feat. Kickboxer

Have you ever thought of what would actually happen if Rocky Balboa faced Kurt Sloane, Kickboxer himself, inside the square circle? Well, on one side you have an iconic boxer from the Silver Screen portrayed by the one and only Sylvester Stallone. On another, the man who helped popularize kickboxing globally, Jean Claude Van-Damme.

The Rocky saga started all the way back in 1976. At the end of next year the legendary boxer appears in the second chapter of Creed.

Kickboxer hit the screen in 1989. At a time when “The Art of Eight Limbs” was barely known to the western world, this was the year when Muay Thai was showcased to a global audience.

Starting the week Sylvester Stallone took it to Instagram. The social media platform he prominently uses to keep millions of his fans up to date, almost on a daily basis.

“One of the greatest film fighters of all time!” Stallone stated in the caption to the photo, which shows him shoulder to shoulder with Van-Damme. Moreover, the famed actors hold what appears to be a championship belt.

In 2012 Sly and JCVD faced each other. Indeed. Released in 2012 The Expendables 2 movie showcased Barney Ross, portrayed by Stallone, up against Jean Vilain, portrayed by Van-Damme.

In addition, late last week Australian Muay Thai fighter John Wayne Parr described Jean Claude Van-Damme as the “hero who inspired him”. In 1993 “The Gunslinger” met JCVD.
