Billy Murray lifts another title
Belfast-born Billy Murray is the former World Champion kickboxer in four different weight classes, being the first Irishman to achieve such accomplishment. Today, being the well-known trainer at ProKick Gym as well as the leading kickboxing promoter in Northern Ireland, “Billy the Great” is still on the front line when it comes to winning titles.
Celebrating the best of east Belfast, the second annual Eastside Awards was held last Thursday (25 January) at Hastings Stormont Hotel. The initiative is aimed at highlighting all that is good about East Belfast, whilst showcasing the contributions being made to the economic, social and community development of the area. The gala was hosted by BBC television presenter, Tara Mills and Michelle Hatfield of Principal Sponsor George Best Belfast City Airport, who have announced the winners.
Billy Murray lifted the top accolade for Outstanding Contribution. Truth, discipline and respect are the values taught at his ProKick Gym that always has its doors open, and its fighters competing at WKN events across the Globe. In addition, Murray is a co-founder of The Peace Fighters initiative, that is known beyond Northern Ireland, at such far places as the United States and Australia.
Murray had his final bout at the young age of 47 when he fought at the Ulster Hall in 2006. His next “made-in ProKick” international kickboxing event is scheduled for Saturday February 17 in Belfast.
