UFC 221 Romero vs Rockhold
The post-fight press conference for UFC 221 was held on Sunday (Feb. 11) afternoon. Senior Vice President David Shaw announced the fight and performances of the night. He has also revealed that with 12,437 people in attendance, Gate at Perth Arena was $3.6 AUD million, which makes it the highest grossing sports event ever held at the venue.
The welterweight battle between Australian Jake Matthews and Chinese Li Jingliang was proclaimed as the Fight of the Night. The performances of the Night went in favor of Israel Adesanya and Jussier Formiga who defeated their respected opponents Rob Wilkinson and Ben Nguyen.
Three main-card fighters: Curtis Blaydes, Tyson Pedro and Tai Tuivasa spoke to media following their performance inside the Octagon. The rest of athletes didn’t attend the post-fight press conference.
The event featured the 12-fight bill, marking the debut of Ultimate Fighting Championship in Western Australia. In the headline-bout Cuban middleweight Yoel Romero stopped the former champion in the division American Luke Rockhold in the third round. In the co-headline bout American Curtis Blaydes scored a unanimous decision against the representative of the country-host Mark Hunt.
