UFC 221 Romero vs Rockhold results

UFC 221 was held on Sunday February 11 at Perth Arena. The event was the debut of Ultimate Fighting Championship in Western Australia featuring a 12-fight bill.

The show was headlined by the former middleweight champion American Luke Rockhold up against KO artist Cuban Yoel Romero. The bout ended prior the final horn with Romero scoring the third-round knockout victory with punch.

The pair was expected to contest for the UFC middleweight interim title, but after two attempts Romero missed weight, coming in first at 188 pounds and then 187.7 pounds, only Rockhold was eligible to win the belt.

“Romero will be fined 30% of his show money, which will go to Rockhold, and the fight at Perth Arena will proceed as scheduled. The interim UFC middleweight title will only be eligible to be won by Rockhold. Should Romero win, he will not be awarded the title,” said the UFC statement.

The co-main event featured a heavyweight battle between “The Super Samoan” Mark Hunt and American Curtis Blaydes. The bout went the distance with the guest out of the United States proclaimed as the winner by a unanimous decision.

Also on the main card heavyweight Tai Tuivasa stopped French Cyril Asker in the first round with punches and over hand elbows, while his Australian-fellow Jake Matthews took a unanimous decision against Chinese welterweight Li Jingliang.
