UFC 224: Nunes vs. Pennington

Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to Brazil with UFC 224 held at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro on May 13 (May 12 in the US). On Friday the promotion announced the headline bout for the upcoming show.

Battling out in the main event the reigning women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes is scheduled to make her third title defense, which is also the first on her home soil. After winning the belt against Miesha Tate, and making two successful defenses against Ronda Rousey and Valentina Shevchenko, the champion faces Raquel Pennington. The latter is riding a four-fight win streak with the victories earned against Tate, Elizabeth Phillips, Bethe Correia and Jessica Andrade.

The bout headlines the Pay-Per-View card which includes two previously announced middleweight battles. “A legend makes the walk to the Octagon for the final time, as Vitor Belfort fights at home against fellow MMA icon Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida, and top contenders Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Kelvin Gastelum collide in a pivotal middleweight matchup,” stated in the announcement.

Other match ups are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. The current lineup can be found below.
