UFC 223 results: Nurmagomedov becomes new LW champion, Namajunas retains SW title


UFC 223: Khabib defeats Iaquinta, Namajunas decisions Jedrzejczyk

UFC 223 was held at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on April 8 (April 7 in the US). The event featured nine bouts with two titles contested on the night.

In the main event Khabib Nurmagomedov and Al Iaquinta contested for UFC lightweight strap. The scheduled for five rounds championship bout went the distance. Nurmagomedov was awarded the belt, winning the fight by a unanimous judges decision. “The Notorious” Conor McGregor was stripped off the belt due to inactivity inside the Octagon.

In the co-main event Rose Namajunas battled out against Joanna Jedrzejczyk, defending her UFC strawweight title. A highly anticipated women’s MMA rematch also went the distance. The result saw “Thug” Rose successfully retaining the belt, scoring a unanimous judges decision.

Also on the main card Renato Moicano similarly defeated Calvin Kattar, and Zabit Magomedsharipov also took the decision against Kyle Bochniak. In addition, Chris Gruetzemacher claimed the second-round TKO win against Joe Lauzon. The complete results can be found below.
