UFC 226 Saki vs Rountree rebooked

Gokhan Saki returns to action on July 8 (July 7 in the US). “The Turkish Tyson” steps inside the Octagon at UFC 226: Miocic vs. Cormier, which takes place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The participation of Saki at the upcoming event was initially indicated late last month. It was formally confirmed over this past weekend, when the promotion announced the name of his opponent Khalil Rountree via Twitter.

Light Heavyweights Rountree and Saki were originally expected to face off last December at UFC 219. The bout fell off due to knee injury suffered by the latter.

Kickboxing legend Gokhan Saki made his UFC debut last September in Saitama, where he scored the first round knockout win against Brazilian Henrique da Silva. Rountree is coming off the “No Contest” outing against Michal Oleksiejczuk, which was originally awarded in favor of the latter, but then overturned when he tested positive for clomiphene.

UFC 226 is headlined by a super fight between the reigning light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, who moves up a weight class, and the defending heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic. The lineup also includes a bantamweight battle between Raphael Assuncao and Rob Font.

Other match ups are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. The current fight card can be found below.

Heavyweight Stipe Miocic (c) vs. Daniel Cormier
Bantamweight Raphael Assuncao vs. Rob Font
Light Heavyweight Gokhan Saki vs. Khalil Rountree Jr.
