Saturday night was freezing cold as we made our way to Serpentine Jarrahdale Recreation Centre in Byford (Perth), WA for Domination Muay Thai 20. Arriving at the venue around 7 pm as the show was about to commence, we headed backstage.
Thankfully it was a lot warmer back there with clusters of fight teams wrapping their fighters’ hands and warming them up on pads. The air was heavy with the familiar smell of Thai oil that is commensurate with fights.
I was invited to present the WKN championship belt at the main event of Domination 20, following our trip to Warsaw, Poland late last month.
The World Middleweight title was on the line between Australian Toby “The Weapon” Smith and English Sam Gough. Toby won by TKO in the third round, becoming a new champion in the division.
Kao Sok Muay Thai
Also on the 14-fight Muay Thai card were a number of fighters from Kao Sok Muay Thai, where I train when I’m in Perth. Dave Flanagan, Misagh Norouzi, Alex James and Jordan Godtfredsen won their bouts, while Bank Jirayu was defeated by fellow Thai Singpayak Chombuen. I enjoyed watching all of their fights and they didn’t disappoint.
Jordan’s win gives him the chance to challenge for WKN Lightweight title against an opponent to be confirmed. The title fight will most likely be scheduled for the next Domination 21 in October this year.
