GGG vs. Canelo 2
Gennady Golovkin (38-0-1) and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (49-1-2) square off for the second time on September 16 (Sept. 15 in the US), Oscar De La Hoya announced via Twitter on Thursday. The bout reportedly takes place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
Golovkin and Alvarez first met in September last year also at T-Mobile Arena. After 12 rounds of action, the decision was proclaimed as a split draw.
Their second encounter was scheduled for May 6. “Everyone [was] looking forward to the rematch,” as per Rocky himself, Sylvester Stallone.
However the contest fell off. Late March when Alvarez was temporarily suspended by the Nevada Athletic Commission, due to his two positive tests for the banned substance clenbuterol. He has officially withdrew from the bout on April 3.
Golovkin instead fought American Vanes Martirosyan at the StubHub Center in Carson, CA. He took the win by knockout in the second round, retaining his WBA (Super), WBC, and IBO middleweight titles.
The Gennady Golovkin vs. Canelo Alvarez 2 championship bout is scheduled for twelve rounds.
