UFC 226: Miocic vs. Cormier
UFC 226 takes place at T-Mobile Arena on July 8 (July 7 in the US). The event is featured on the programme of the seventh annual International Fight Week held from July 3 to July 8 throughout Las Vegas.
The main event is a highly anticipated Champion vs. Champion super fight. Stipe Miocic (18-2-0) makes his fourth heavyweight title defense, facing off Daniel Cormier (20-1-0, 1NC).
The latter is a reigning light heavyweight champion, who moves up a weight class, aspiring to become a two division UFC champion simultaneously. If successful he joins Conor McGregor, who won lightweight title, when he was the reigning featherweight champion.
Ahead of the event the promotion released two full fights featuring both heavy-hitters. One of the videos shows Miocic battling out against Alistair Overeem in September 2016 at UFC 203 in Cleveland, where the heavyweight champion made his first successful title defense scoring the first-round knockout win with punches. The second video, is the most recent bout of Cormier, which co-headlined UFC 220 in January in Boston, where he TKO’d Volkan Oezdemir in the second round, successfully defending his light heavyweight title for the third time.
UFC 226 also features Max Holloway who defends his featherweight title against Brian Ortega. The current fight card can be found below.
