UFC 226: Daniel Cormier becomes two-division champion

UFC 226 took place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on July 8 (July 7 in the US). The event featured 11 bouts with The Superfight between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier on the top of the bill.

Miocic entered the Octagon making the fourth defense of his UFC heavyweight title. Cormier, the current light heavyweight champion, aspired to capture the belt in the second weight class.

The scheduled for five rounds championship bout ended prior the final bell. The challenger earned the win by knockout in the first round with punches.

As an result, Daniel Cormier becomes a new UFC heavyweight champion. Furthermore, he becomes a two-division title holder, joining Conor McGregor, who won lightweight title, when he was the reigning featherweight champion.

In the co-main event Francis Ngannou went up against Derrick Lewis. The latter came out victorious scoring a unanimous decision.

Also on the card Mike Perry took a split decision against Paul Felder, and Anthony Pettis submitted Michael Chiesa in the second round. In addition, Khalil Rountree Jr. took the first-round knockout win against Gokhan Saki with punches. The complete UFC 226 results can be found below.
