Pacquiao vs. Matthysse for WBA ‘regular’ welterweight title
Argentine Lucas Matthysse (39-4, 36 KOs) defends his World Boxing Association ‘regular’ welterweight title against Filipino Manny Pacquiao (59-7-2, 38 KOs) on Sunday July 15. The pair squares off in the scheduled for twelve rounds bout held at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The event marks the return of famed boxer Pacquiao, who goes through the ropes for the first time since last July when he suffered the decision defeat against Australian Jeff Horn. Matthysse makes his first title defense, after he won the belt by knockout in the eighth round against Thai Tewa Kiram in January.
At the official weigh-in ceremony conducted on Saturday morning the champion Matthysse showed 146.7 lbs. Pacquiao was 146 lbs. The required limit is 147 lbs.
The fight card also includes Jhack Tepora of Philippines up against Edivaldo Ortega of Mexico. The pair battles out for a vacant WBA interim featherweight title. The bout is scheduled for 12 rounds.
